These resources have been produced by members of Education Leeds Visually Impaired Team.

The tactile books are examples of those used by staff when working with young children who have significant visual impairments and are beginning to develop their Braille and tactile skills. The emphasis has been on engaging the children’s interest, introducing them to literacy and the pleasures of sharing books with friends and family.

The emphasis has been on engaging the children’s interest, introducing them to literacy and the pleasures of sharing books with friends and family.

Including children with a Visual Impairment in the KS1 and KS2 Literacy Curriculum’ is one of a series of documents produced by Education Leeds Visually Impaired Team to promote access and inclusion within the curriculum. In addition to basic guidelines for handwriting, class and group work in the Foundation Stage, KS1 and KS2 it considers Alternative Ways of Recording, Spelling, Punctuation, and SAT’s.

‘Tactile Games Checklist’ has been prepared to record a child’s progress through a skills programme which introduces early mathematical skills and language. This programme is one of several which are used by members of Education Leeds Visually Impaired Team to support the development of young children with a visual impairment.
